Stone and water in the garden

Asian gardeners in particular have known for centuries that the garden is not only made up of plants and soil, but that there are many other elements in the garden, such as stone and water as other natural elements.

The appearance of the water and stone element in the garden

At present, it is not at all difficult to enrich any garden with stone and water, i.e. one of the basic elements, as many garden centers offer a wide range of ready-made elements with recirculation pumps. Whole decorative sets are sold, from cascades, through fountains, drinking fountains, to entire ponds. However, the range is enriched by many specialized companies that provide advice in this area or directly specialize in establishing ponds and also in services to customers who have decided to create a water feature in their garden on their own. So if you do not yet have water and stone in your garden, add it to your garden. However, prefer the element of running water, which will give your garden a distinctive and pleasant extra element.

How to determine the size

Make sure to consider in advance how much water you want in your garden. It often happens that people find out after the completion of a pond or waterfall that the water in the garden among the perennials or trees is somewhat lost and should have been represented here to a greater extent. Although, for example, the pond on the floor of the garden center seemed large enough to you, it may not be so in your garden. A garden water hose or cardboard from a large paper box can be a practical tool to help you determine the required size of a garden pond, for example. Cut out a simple model from the cardboard, and then place it in the given place in the garden. From the hose, you can again shape the shape of the shore in the selected area reserved for the pond and immediately compare it with the other parts of the garden.

Maintenance of water and stone elements

Whether your decision foreshadowed having a small or large water feature in your garden, keep in mind that all forms will require regular maintenance. Each water element represents a form of ecosystem, reservoirs often fall off with the leaves, and also attract a variety of animals. Sometimes even plants that you did not originally intend to grow start to infest the reservoirs. All this will need your care. Only through regular treatment and regulation can you maintain a balanced state in the tanks, where it was easy to create at the time of establishing, but it is less easy to maintain it permanently. Special care must be taken with fish and some plants, especially in winter. The ideal situation occurs if you can take out the entire container for the winter and thus protect it from frost cracking. In any case, the pump should not remain in the water during the winter. Despite the fact that the water elements in the garden sometimes require quite demanding care, they create a source of indescribable joy in every garden. They refresh the environment, give the garden new perspectives, and are a constant source of observation. Many compositions made of stone, water and plants will reward you for your exemplary care with a truly unique and, above all, soothing experience, whether visual or auditory.
