HATCON system – a new level of management and communication with hydraulic equipment

This year’s March construction trade show CONEXPO – CON/AGG in Las Vegas, the company Epiroc presented its new platform of monitoring hydraulic equipment – the HATCON system.

HATCON (Hydraulic Attachment Tools Connectivity), in cooperation with the My Epiroc phone app, procures the online monitoring of hydraulic equipment and communication with users.

It is a first system of its kind where the communication between the user and the hydraulic equipment and the phone application is also available through a web interface but also on mobile devices with the Android or iOS (Apple) operation systems.

The user can in this way acquire all the key information, such as:

  • the current position of the device and tracking of its movement, supported by GPS
  • current value of operational clocks
  • preliminary warning about the upcoming interval for service

the hardware of the HATCON module is made of the sensor of movement acceleration and an active GPS transmitter that is set in a rubber socket protected by a massive polyurethane cover which is connected to the body of the hydraulic hammer.

After activating the module, the operational data are transferred through a satellite GPS connection and are collected on a central server of the system of communication with Certiq machines. They are then mediated to the user through My Epiroc application.

In the first phase of the introduction of HATCON on the market, it will be available for hydraulic hammers of SB, MB, and HB class. The rock milling machines Erkat of the ER class will also be in the programme. In the second half of the year, the system will be available for other types of machines from the portfolio of Epiroc hydraulic machines.

HATCON is delivered as a factory installation on new machines, but also as a retrofit-kit. It can be installed on already existing hydraulic devices.

This new level of monitoring and hydraulic machinery management helps to procure optimal use and simplification of the logistics of the fleet of machines at the workplace. The knowledge of precise GPS location increases anti-theft security and decreases the time necessary to seek out the machine at the workplace. The service interval warning will enable the planning of service maintenance ahead and decrease the delay times of hydraulic machinery.
