LARGE MANUAL POLISHING MACHINE
The amount of work is increasing and soon we will all have our hands full. This is the last moment to put your tool set under review. There won’t be time for that later. And nobody needs to be convinced that reliable tools are the basis of effective work. Especially when deadlines are pressing. Then every day of downtime caused by a power tool failure means three times the cost.
The EPO 130 frontal angle polisher is a machine that fitted into the gap created when the Celma PRAw130 disappeared from the market. It is a large hand-held wet polisher with 115V power supply.
The EPO 130 is a polisher manufactured in Poland, with Polish components. The manufacturer is Elektropol from Zgierz, a company with 20 years’ experience in manufacturing power tool parts. Therefore, the EPO 130 is an evolving tool. The manufacturer is willing to get feedback from users and introduce modifications and improvements to subsequent batches of tools delivered to stonemasons.
The heart of the tool is the motor. Its parameters are well matched to the size of the rotor and the performance of the polisher. The motor is an original design by Elektropol.
Many practical solutions have been applied in the polisher. We can mention, for example, an additional simmer in the water unit which protects the gearbox against flooding when other seals lose their tightness. There are brushes with a fuse which switches off the polisher when the brushes are worn out. In addition, the brush material is selected specifically for this machine. The gears of the gearbox are not permanently connected to the rotor, so if they fail, you do not need to replace the entire rotor. The water inlet – an element which very often fails accidentally – is unscrewed and made of plastic, so its replacement is easy and cheap. The EPO 130 is equipped with an elongated 5-metre-long power cable with the same plug as the the old “celma” used to have.
The fact that the EPO 130 comes from a Polish manufacturer with an established reputation in the tool industry has another important significance: parts for the EPO 130 are available on a regular basis and service is provided door-to-door within a few days. All parts for the polisher can be ordered from the manufacturer. This is facilitated by the documentation supplied with the machine, which includes an assembly drawing with service codes for each part.
This does not mean that the EPO 130 requires frequent service visits. Quite the contrary. The design of the machine is very simple. As a result, the EPO 130 is reliable and most repairs can be carried out by yourself without having to send the machine to a service centre. All you need is a supply of the most common wearing parts. With proper care, the polisher will last for many years. Be aware, however, that your polisher works in harsh conditions. This means that some parts will wear out and access to spare parts is crucial.
The manufacturer has learnt from Celma’s history – a stock of spare parts and constant technical and service support for customers is the basis of good after-sales service. Telephone service advice in this respect is provided by the manufacturer’s service and Elmar Serwis, distributor of EPO 130 on the stone market (Mariusz Wojtyra, tel. 601 702 402).
The polisher has a 12-month warranty. During this period, any repairs are carried out at the manufacturer’s expense within a few days, which – with the time needed for dispatch – usually takes about a week.
The EPO 130 is primarily a wet machine. It is perfect for working with abrasive stone and a grit. However, abrasive stone work is its domain, as it is more robust than smaller machines that cannot withstand continuous stone work in the long run. A maximum stone diameter of 130 mm can be fitted, but most often customers fit a ‘hundred’. When working with a grit wheel, a disc with a diameter of up to 230 mm can be used.
Users praise the EPO 130, because it is comfortable to work with, fits well in the hand, and in case of problems has a quick and reliable service. The polisher had its premiere in 2016. Polish stonemasons already have around 1,400 of these machines in operation.
