MIXSTONE – PROFESSIONAL VARNISH FOR TOMBSTONE LETTERS
They are very important functions of tombstones: the informative function – inscriptions, and the aesthetic function – reliefs. In the first case, as well as in the second case, it is very important to give the iron inlaid inscriptions clearer arrangement and deepen their aesthetics in combination with stone protection. This can be achieved if you use tombstone varnish MIXSTONE. It is easily applicable. It is a great topcoat and adhesive as well. It is a professional varnish.
Its natural colour is only enhanced by grinding and polishing of raw stone. When making the letters, the thin layer of polish, which covers the natural stone, is removed. This is why the newly made inscriptions are lighter. Every stonemason knows that.
The inscriptions can be left in the natural colour of raw stone. You have to remember that after rain, untreated stone will soak up water and the letters will be darker and less visible until they dry up. Painting the letters with a suitable varnish increases the value of the monument and at the same time improves the visibility that does not depend on weather conditions.
The shade of varnish needs to be chosen according to the colour of the stone. Lighter or darker grey stones are painted with black or graphite colour to make the inscription more contrasting. Darker stones can be painted with gold or silver varnish. The letters painted with the varnish will, nevertheless, lose their original shine and application of varnish needs to be repeated from time to time. That is why it is worthwhile to choose professional products. They are easier to use and much more durable.
MIXSTONE, from the Polish company Inchem, meets these criteria. It is meant for painting and renovation of letters, ornaments, and reliefs on stone. There are four colours, light – golden and silver, and dark – black and graphite. The most proper colour is achieved by adding pearl and metal pigments.
To ensure high durability against light and weather conditions, only the best pearl pigments, the same pigments that are used in manufacturing of car varnishes, paints for metals and topcoats for glass and ceramics. By the way, it is worth mentioning that the pearl pigments are on the basis of mica platelets which are coated with oxides of iron and titanium dioxide. This combination enables achieving not only metal silver and golden colours, but also yellow, brown, copper, red, and even blue and green.
The metallic pigments are, on the other hand, particles of particular metals in the form of platelets or small scales in different levels of graininess that give the topcoats different shine, glitter, and sparkle. The basis for their production is usually aluminium which – appropriately adjusted – imitates silver, and brass that imitates gold in different shades. Metal pigments are distinguished for their great covering ability and durability against alkaline conditions. They are also antifungal and anti-corrosive.
