Stones represented very important role in mythology similar to rocks – they stood for strength, power, integrity and persistence. Nowadays, the stones are perceived as an unlimited source of energy. In any case, stones are suitable for our garden just for its natural origin, appearance, ingenuity of every chunk, durability, colourfulness, and pattern.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it does not have to be large pieces of stone or superficially modified. Decorative stones are offered in raw form from gravel and pebbles to large natural monoliths which can easily find their unique place in a garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stones should not be missed in ornamental garden.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Decorative stones can complement rockery, hidden recess and it creates the solitary element of a garden. Small pebbles or gravel can substitute for bark dust, however, they can be used on flat surfaces instead of pavement or flat stones. Garden pond or space around swimming can be complemented by pebbles If you are considering aggregates for a rockery, always choose one predominant type of decorative stone. Garden architects do not recommend blending mixtures of stones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solitary stone or stones will become inseparable part of the garden which we complement by planting plants e.g. in portable pots. There is also possibility to select more amount of stones of similar size and create ornamental patch which will only be decorated by stones. That’s why we choose stones of the same kind. Smaller stones serve as a backfill and they create colourful contrast. Stone aggregate has become very popular alternative of bark dust which is spread over the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building rockery or stone patch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Decorative stone is placed onto pre-prepared dug out pit or at least a hole which we strengthen the stability of inserted stone. The back side of the pit should slope down. The stone will lean on it and its stability will improve so even extreme wind will not move with the stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is ideal to choose a type of stone which occurs close to your house. It will look natural in your garden. But, if we want to reach an opposite effect, why not. A rockery must be provided with geotextile as a protection against growing weeds, and then we place plants among larger stones and the rest of interstice are filled up with smaller stones. Plants are inserted into holes cut in geotextile (under which high quality soil must be prepared already). Consequently, we place stones (we prepared pits for larger ones in advance before covering it with geotextile). Finally, we have to make decision about appropriate way how to adjust the surface of the rockery. In fact, it is a decision between bark dust or a stone aggregate (e.g. pebbles). Regarding the rockery we have to take its size and our willingness to maintain it into consideration. Only then we can have our garden design drafted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For decorative stones we can choose among marbles, limestones, travertine, sandstone, granite, sea granite, gneiss, slate, onyx, volcanic stones or gypsum and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
