\nThe hypothesis about the origin of the foundation\nstone was confirmed in the records of the former Liechtenstein estate\nKostelec nad \u010cern\u00fdmi lesy kept in the state regional archives in\nBene\u0161ov and Brno, and in the period press. The records showed that\nin a wood called Kamenn\u00e1 le\u010d (Stone Hunt) near Lou\u0148ovice in the\n\u010cernokostelecko Region a whitish fine- to medium-grained granite\nidentical to the National Theatre foundation stone was broken off\nsurface boulders in the 1860s (until the beginning of the First\nRepublic). In 1869 a large stone block (which was over 4 m3<\/sup>\nin volume and took nine pairs of horses to transport) was broken to\nbe used as an obelisk for Jind\u0159ich F\u00fcgner\u2019s tombstone in Ol\u0161any\nCemetery. It was the information about this memorial published in\nN\u00e1rodn\u00ed listy (The National Newspaper) on 13 April 1869 and in a\npublication commemorating 20 years of the Prague Sokol from 1883\nwhich confirmed that the obelisk used to build F\u00fcgner\u2019s memorial\nand the National Theatre foundation stone are of the same type of\ngranite found in the same place in a wood today called Kam\u00e9nka near\nLou\u0148ovice in the \u010cernokostelecko Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIn the extensive archive of the Society for the\nFoundation of the Czech National Theatre kept in the National Museum\nTheatre Department we found a valuable original inventory of all\ntwenty rocks brought to construction site of the National Theatre\nfrom different places across Bohemia and Moravia. Together with the\nfoundation stones from Radho\u0161\u0165 (no. 1) and \u0158\u00edp (no. 2), the\ninventory lists the foundation stone by\nMr. \u017di\u017eka with an inscription Nation to itself 1868<\/em>.\nThis \u201cMr. \u017di\u017eka\u201d was of course the aforementioned stonemason\nGabriel \u017di\u017eka (1833 \u20131889), the founding member of Beseda\nM\u011b\u0161\u0165ansk\u00e1 (Civic Educational Organization) and Hlahol, one of the\nfirst members of Beseda um\u011bleck\u00e1 (Artistic Educational\nOrganization), a founding member and from 1887 also the mayor of\nPrague Sokol. It comes as no surprise then that in his biography\npublished in Zlat\u00e1 Praha (Golden Prague) on 13 January 1888 it says\nthat the foundation stone was \u017di\u017eka\u2019s gift to the National\nTheatre!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
